YOUR news item on May 22 correctly identifies the plight of Herefordshire Citizens Advice Bureau, not only in Ledbury but throughout the county.

This is due to the withdrawal of all funding by the previous Herefordshire Council administration.

This is a cruel decision taken by very, very few other local authorities in the country.

Your excellent leader comment in the same issue identifies the effect that the withdrawal of the service is going to have on some of the most vulnerable in our society.

As a volunteer at CAB, I know how desperately advice sessions need to return to Ledbury and the other towns in the county where they have, by necessity, been withdrawn.

The only way that this will be achieved is for the media, all the new councillors and the public to campaign for Herefordshire Council to find money to reinstate the grant of £117,000.

That sum is only a proportion of the total CAB budget but pays for the professional staff.

Without them the volunteers cannot do their job, about which they are so passionate.
