Why are our wheelie bins so wide?

First published in Letters by

I HAVE just read a letter about Wychavon District Council's dustbin collections. They have just two bins: one for landfill and one for recycling.

l am quite happy with Malvern's collections, but l do have a question. Why, when most household paths are two feet wide do we have wheelie bins with a two-ft wheelbase, whihc are very hard to keep on the path?
