What relevance is this man's ethnicity?

First published in Letters

HAVING read an article regarding a gentleman who was found growing cannabis at his home (Man grew drugs in van, May 23) I am struggling to understand what relevance his ethnicity plays in the report?

Surely his name, age and possibly address is all you would normally print?

You further refer to his home as being situated on a '"transit camp" for travellers.

There are no transit camps in Worcestershire.

Malvern Meadows is a permanent caravan site which has been occupied by many of the residents for 24 years. Law-abiding residents!

I think you should consider how the report might appear to some people as an insidious attempt to discriminate against a minority group.

Will you describe the ethnicity of every individual you report on in future?

Boadacia! says...

We are in dangerous times for anyone who doesn't quite fit into the so-called normal category just as 1930's Germany.

If my last voting forms are anything to go by, the rise of the fascist right wing elements in Herefordshire seem to indicate, this obsession of blaming EU membership (and immigration) for all the crippling austerity the poor and ignorant face, encouraged by much of the media, completely ignoring the real causes by the unelected people in government, and their exploitation of the immigrants they brought here.
