I FEAR Mr Bridges (Gazette, November 6) has mis-read my personal statement.

I predicted more calls for Upton elections – three in recent months – and now as anticipated, we have two more elections called, for the Town and Longdon Heath wards.

Resignations are for each individual councillor to consider and I never implied that any further resignations were likely.

There have been six resignations this year, 40 per cent of the council, which is extraordinary, and unsettling both for the public, for council staff, and for councillors.

I have been encouraged by the many messages of support that I have received following my Personal Statement, and I believe there is now an emerging consensus within Upton Town Council for a return to a conventional structure of committees – with published agendas and minuted meetings that are open to the public, supported where appropriate by project oriented working groups.
