Malvern MP Harriett Baldwin has been quizzed about the work of Parliament during a visit to a county school.

Mrs Baldwin, the West Worcestershire MP, visited Pendock Primary School on the Worcestershire and Gloucestershire border.

She led a debate and the children, who have been learning about democracy, had the chance to vote on school lunch times.

The MP also met with headteacher Hannah Moon to talk about some of the challenges the school is facing to keep student numbers stable.

The MP was invited to tour the school by Malvern Hills District councillor Jennie Watkins, who took part in her own election earlier this month and is a parent governor at the school.

Mrs Baldwin said: “It was a delight to talk to the pupils about my work in Parliament and I invited them to come and visit me at my place of work.

“Although young people don’t yet vote, it is clear that they are very interested in the political process and I was able to help them to debate a subject that they clearly feel strongly about and pass that message to the teachers.

“Pendock Primary School is a great place to study and it was useful to chat to the head teacher about some of the challenges that she is facing.

“One of the major problems facing schools like hers is how to keep a full roll of pupils and she is facing the same challenges as many local schools filling places.

“I’ve written to the Education Secretary to share her experiences and I’ll be meeting with an Education Minister in Westminster shortly to reinforce the story of Pendock Primary and many other local schools.”

We reported last month that only five schools in the Malvern Hills district are classed as oversubscribed - Malvern Parish Primary School, Suckley Primary School, Wyche Primary School, Tenbury Primary School and Eldersfield Lawn Primary School.
