CHRIS Pennell is determined to end Worcester Warriors’ battle against relegation by defeating a “very dangerous” Harlequins side at Sixways today (3pm).

The Aviva Premiership clash is set to be a special occasion with Pennell making his 200th appearance for his boyhood club and captain Donncha O’Callaghan bringing the curtain down on his 20-year career.

But with Worcester yet to secure their top-flight status Pennell has urged his team-mates to focus on finishing the job this weekend.

“We have got to go out and win the game – that’s the priority,” said the full-back.

“There are a lot of external factors that are going to drive a performance and I am confident the guys are going to go out and show what they are about.

“If we can do that then people like myself and Donncha can enjoy ourselves after the game and look back with fond memories.”

Warriors are nine points clear of bottom club London Irish who host high-flying Saracens tomorrow (3pm).

Even if the Exiles claim maximum points from their remaining two games a point against Quins will be enough for Warriors to beat the drop as they have won more matches than their relegation rivals.

“After the game we would like to be in a position where we have done the job ourselves and don’t need to be looking at other results,” Pennell said.

“There are still a couple of teams within our reach as well, Quins being one of them, so it is a big opportunity for us to not only put the relegation battle to bed but also look at catching the two sides above us.”

Ninth-placed Quins are on a run of three successive defeats and have won just once on the road in the Premiership all season.

But Pennell said Warriors were aware of the threats Quins pose having lost in two high-scoring encounters at The Stoop this term.

“They are very dangerous,” said the 31-year-old.

“They have got several internationals in their starting 15, so if we are not on the money it will be a tough afternoon.

“But I do believe that if we have a massive first half it will be ours for the taking.”
