MALVERN rower Colin Scott is hoping to go one better this year and make the top boat for Cambridge in the Boat Race next March.
Scott, aged 22, who went to RGS Worcester, was making his fourth attempt to make the Light Blue boat, having rowed in the reserve Goldie boat on three previous occasions, in 2004 and 2005 as well as this year's winning boat.
He was selected to row in this week's trial eights race on the Thames to give the university club coaches a chance to see how their rowing squads are progressing, as two crews of eight row against each other down the Boat Race course on the River Thames.
Scott's boat, True Love was defeated by One Night Stand on Tuesday at the Cambridge Trial Eights. One Night Stand, coxed to victory by the 2007 cox Rebecca Dowbiggin, won in 18 minutes 58 seconds against True Love's 19 minutes 8 seconds.
Scott is currently studying for a masters degree in management at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, having completed an MSci in natural sciences.
Head coach Duncan Holland said: "I'd say that with 3 months to go, there are 12 rowers in with a chance of getting into the boat."
