MALVERN Rugby Club bid to maintain the momentum after fielding four men's senior teams at times this season.

The Spring Lane outfit are looking for more players to get involved after a healthy start to the campaign which has seen the third XV regularly turning out and the fourths enjoying games.

Director of rugby Marc Gaubert said: "Getting four teams out hasn't happened for 16 years. We have got rugby for all levels here."

Anyone interested in joining in can head along on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 7pm or call Gaubert on 07771 623263.

Malvern's third-from-bottom first XV return to action at home to leaders Stow in Regional Two Midlands West on Saturday (2.15pm) after last weekend's visit to Ludlow was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In returning after the festive break, Malvern look for an upturn in results after some agonising defeats, three draws and winning just one of their last 10 league fixtures, 20-16 at Worcester.

Gaubert, who was appointed ahead of this season, said: "It's been a case of so near and yet so far. We've been competitive but have struggled to convert pressure into points.

"A few injuries and people moving away have not helped. We've had a lot of away fixtures and there are a few more at home in the second half of the season. We are targeting a few coming up and should be getting some points soon."

The Stow match will be a tough start to the year with the Cotswold club improving considerably after the two sides drew 17-17 earlier in the campaign but Gaubert declared: "I wouldn't write us off."

The second-placed seconds head to Counties Four Midlands West (South) table-toppers Birmingham Exiles on Saturday after a 22-17 defeat to fellow high-fliers Upton when wing Henderson Jonathan scored two tries from retrieved kicks.

The thirds host Bromyard seconds on Saturday (2.15pm) while Upton entertain Old Halesonians seconds.
