HOME player and two-handicapper Jason Allies shot a nett 71 to lift the prestigious Garnet Scott Memorial Salver at The Worcestershire.

Golfers from six counties competed in the open where all entrants held a handicap of nine or better.

Competition was tight for the minor placings with four returning 73.

Graham Barker from Copt Heath, Knowle, took the runner-up slot from Forest Hills’ Ryan Burris.

Also on 73 was defending champion Rich Higgs from The Worcestershire who took fourth place ahead of David Iles from Naunton Downs.

The best gross prize was again won by home player Tom Howells.

On a warm, sunny day, The Worcestershire seniors played out a hard-fought 4½-3½ win over Ross-on-Wye.

There were wins for captain Andy Peet and Phil Bayliss 8&6, Les Facer and Andrew Whiteley 4&3, Andrew Colston and Nigel Teale 3&2, Terry Cox and Tim Keates 2&1 and

Mike Travis and Dave Jones halved while Ken Willett and Peter Kirton lost 5&3, Ron Barker and Euan McClelland 2&1 and Keith Hitchcock and Tony Cox one-down.

Whiteley was nearest the pin on the 15th.

The Worcestershire welcomed members from Neath for the first time in the history of the two clubs and won 6-1.

A mixed team from The Warwickshire made their first visit to The Worcestershire and claimed four of the 10 greensome matches.

The six wins for the hosts were recorded by Jill and Brian Piner, Anne and Malcolm Garner, April and Andy Greene, Sally and Andrew Dare, Diane and Paul Meakin and Geraldine and John Williams.

Cathy Harris, Betty Hakes and Pam Emery-Reynolds won the ladies' Tuesday alliance with 75 stableford points.
