WORCESTER'S Abigail Watkins competed at the British Cadet and Junior Championships in Nottingham.

In the junior women's under 20s épée she fought a perfect poule with a 100 per cent record seeding her second for the direct eliminations.

Watkins lost only one fight 15-13 and finished fifth with Malvern Hills Sword Fencing club-mate Danielle Lawson winning the title.

Malvern's Alexandra Powell was sixth, Rebecca Wakefield eighth, Louise Sadler 26th and Christy Ma 40th.

Club coach John Rees said Watkins, who goes to the Royal Grammar School Worcester, fought with a maturity well beyond her 15 years.

Watkins was 11th in the girls' under 17s épée in a great improvement from last year to gain a cadet ranking of 12th.

Malvern's Sadler was 13th, Lottie Trevethan 25th and Ma 28th.
