THE Worcestershire seniors’ section captain John Williams was well supported by more than 60 members at his away day at The Rolls of Monmouth.

The course and the venue were excellent but the weather proved windy, making the golf testing, and the course played long.

Despite this, scoring was good and an enjoyable day culminated in a good meal and prize-giving.

Winner of the Captain’s Away Day Trophy for the best overall nett score was Nick Scanlon with 37 points. Hot on his heels were Jim Wilde with 36 and Andy Peet on 35.

The team event was won by Bob Sheldon, Scanlon and Richard Dee with 78 points ahead of John Williams, Wilde and Colin Jones on 75 with Mike Bothma, Mike Day and Andrew Milne third on 72.

Additional prizes were won by Paul Butler, DJ Lloyd and Dee.

Seniors’ section golf continues to thrive at the Malvern Wells venue with a packed schedule of events and home competitions together with winter and summer matches against 13 other local clubs.

Where matches are concerned, The Worcestershire are currently on a roll, winning their last three encounters at home to Evesham 5-1, The Vale 4½-3½ and old rivals Ross-on-Wye 6-2.
