MALVERN Town manager Les Jones has set his sights on finishing in the top 10 of the West Midlands League Premier Division ahead of their clash at Wellington Amateurs tomorrow (3pm).

The fixture sees Town, who currently sit in 12th place in the table, come up against the team sitting just one place below them, albeit with Wellington having six matches in hand.

Despite the amount of games they are ahead of the teams around them in the division, Jones is confident of Malvern maintaining their good form and climbing the league.

“We are on a good run in the league. We have only lost once since Christmas and are doing well,” he said.

“It’s difficult being asked to play two games a week in this league, but we seem to be coping alright and I am happy with where we are.”

After setting themselves a challenge to win 14 games for the rest of the season, Malvern are flying, with four victories from five matches, losing only 2-1 at home to Ellesmere Rangers last week.

They will also be hoping to bounce back from Tuesday’s 4-0 defeat at Bromsgrove Sporting in the Worcestershire FA Senior Urn quarter-final.

Jones felt the game, switched to Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground, was going well for Malvern until a red card for Jamie Thomas.

Sam Wilkinson scored a hat-trick for Sporting with the other coming from the boot of Lewis Clarke.

“We were in the game at 1-0 but when the sending-off came, it affected us,” he admitted.

“I’m not saying it would have affected the outcome of the game, but it definitely affected our performance.”

Town also hope to add to their 2-0 win at Willenhall Town last Saturday, a victory that was only their third away from the Langland Stadium this season.

Jones added: “We got a good away win last time out in the league. I know our away form has not been the best this season, but it is a tough league to play in, especially if you have injuries, suspensions and players unavailable. I think we’re doing a good job at the moment.”
