Coombs Wood 165 all out, Worcester Nomads 166-4.

WORCESTER Nomads had Liam O’Driscoll and Damon Gariff to thank as they beat Coombs Wood by six wickets in Crusader Worcestershire League Division One.

Coombs Wood elected to bat first on a flat Whitegates Farm pitch.

They were soon in trouble, however, against the seam bowling of Gariff.

He took out the first three wickets, all caught by wicketkeeper Sam Roberts.

Coombs Wood captain James Burgoyne (61) and Mark Venross (38) put up some firm resistance in the middle order. But when these two went Coombs Wood had little else to offer.

Nomads skipper Dannie Rees, aided by some splendid catching, picked up 4-19 and Gariff 4-47 as Wood folded on 165 all out.

Nomads lost three early wickets but when O’Driscoll and Gariff took root the result was never in doubt.

O’Driscoll made a fine 62 and when he was out, Gariff (58no) and Roberts (17no) guided their team home for the haul of 24 points.
