WEST Malvern opened their Worcestershire Indoor League campaign at the Royal Grammar School, Worcester, with a 13-run win over Old Vigornians.
The villagers triumphed with an over left after totalling 111-5 and then dismissing their city opponents for 98.
West Malvern, not known for winning when batting first, were helped to their average total by Kevin Gilbert (24) and Ben Tanner (20).
OVs’ reply stuttered as Jessie Blackburn swooped early on and several run-out decisions reduced them to 54- 3.
A crucial stumping off Blackburn’s bowling was followed by another run-out to complete West’s victory.
