MALVERN Cycle Sport scored a hat-trick at Hopton Woods in British Mountain Bike Cross Country Racing Series round three.

James Dickens stormed to a win in the fun category for the relatively new club, completing two laps in one hour six seconds.

Not to be outdone, national series regular Louis Brooks took the under 12s race in Shropshire after previously going close to a triumph.

Belinda Tarling clocked one hour 22 minutes 13 seconds to provide a third victory for Malvern in the veteran women’s category.

In the youth category, Dave Creber claimed fifth spot despite a mechanical problem early in the race. Josh Brooks was 20th and Ollie Harcombe 29th.

The elite racers took to the course for five relentless laps and, in the absence of British champion Liam Killeen, Malvern’s sole representative was Ed Moseley in 30th place.

Junior rider Harry Webb completed three laps in a time of 1.11.25 to come 17th and Paddy O’Toole was 24th in the sport category.

Malvern’s Mark Webb was 63rd in the veterans and, in a closefought battle, Greg Fitzpatrick finished 10th in the grand veterans, a mere four seconds adrift of ninth.

The team head to Dumfries, Scotland, for the next round before completing the series in Essex in mid-July. The national championships are in Berkshire at the end of July.

The club also hold regular social rides, including a ladies’ group.
