CAPTAIN’S Day at The Worcestershire club is always an occasion not to be missed and club captain Andy Davis provided plenty of interesting action and an evening of entertainment afterwards.

The golf provided opportunities for the big hitters, the straight hitters and the short hole artists apart from the main stableford competition, in which the afternoon players had to contend with some wet weather.

Phil Shurmer (2) led Division One with 39 points and also won the captain’s club for the best gross score, followed by John Rooney (9), 37, and James Rose (5), 35. Division Two saw Keith McLaughlin (13) make the best score of the day, 40 points, with Mike Day (17) next on 38 and Trevor Cox (14) on 35.

Gary Torbitt (23) also managed 40 points in Division Three, well ahead of Richard Cook (25) on 36 and James Hayburn (19) on 34.

There was a good entry for the Stan McCabe Trophy better-ball stableford and scoring was competitive.

Two doctors, Simon Fearn (20) and Michael Lloyd (10), found the right prescription with their 43 points which won on the back nine from Mark Read (5) and Phil Birch (8).

Tim Wilson (13) and Tim Cain (9) came third with 42.

n The beginning of the month means that the competitions for the ladies of The Worcestershire club will be EWGA medals.

The medal winner was Alison Tuck with nett 74.

The performance of the day in the EWGA medal was from Jennifer Bunyan with a nett 71.

Other excellent scores came from, Chris Urry (72), Alison Merley (73), Cath Francis (74), Di Meakin (75) and Joan Haworth (76).

The nine-hole qualifying stableford was won by Di Wilde with 18 points, Pat Longley with 15 was runner-up.

Both these players showing good form on their way back from injury.
