THE 2006 British Hillclimb Championship could be won or lost at Prescott on Sunday (September 3), when a summer of super-fast competition moves into its final chapter.

The title goes to the driver with the most points from 28 of the 34 rounds in the season - two at each title meeting.

Reigning champion Martin Groves (Bicester) leads Ludlow's Scott Moran by two points but the latter was unbeatable at Prescott last September.

The two leaders will face strong opposition from Roger Moran (Ludlow), Simon Durling (Shelsley), Mike Dean (Guernsey), Paul Ranson (Bicester) and Deryk Young (Hereford). One of the sport's most popular drivers, William Toet in his Pilbeam Racer, returns to the hill after four months away, which all means that Prescott could see the best hillclimb action of the year.

With all drivers due for three practice runs and a quality entry in all classes, Saturday should be an full day.

The next morning, the class runs will see the aces battle to qualify for the first championship run-off featuring the fastest 12 cars. Qualifying is then repeated in the afternoon with the second shoot-out rounding off the action.

The one major award that will definitely be decided is the Bugatti Owners' Club's Prescott Gold Cup.

Frontrunner Roy Standley from Leamington pits his rapid Mitsubishi EVO5 supercar against the flying Ford Anglia of Worcester's Simon Bridge.

The action starts with practice tomorrow from 9.30am and the event begins on Sunday at 10am.

Adult admission is £10 on Saturday and £14 on Sunday. Accompanied children U14 are admitted free and car parking is free.
