WEST Malvern's openers Tony Williams and Steve Wright put on 152 to steer their side to a comfortable winning margin against Enville thirds in division six of the WCL.

On another glorious afternoon at Mathon court, the West's skipper Kevin Gilbert won the toss and chose to field.

Enville's senior openers, Dave Goring and Fred Hodges (35), escaped some close calls until Goring (11) was superbly run-out by Andy Hurrell. Steve Wright bowled well without any luck, his seven overs costing a meagre 15.

Led by the aggressive Adam Passmore (71), Enville started to show more ambition and with ten overs to go had 150 on the board with six wickets remaining. Matt Grainger became Bill Munn's (12-0-62-3) third victim for 14 but captain Stuart Fellows (14) and the big hitting Richard Abbott (25no) ensured that they posted a competitive total. Brian Pleass had Fellows brilliantly caught by Dakin off the last ball of the innings which closed on 216-6.

A fiery opening spell from Lee Passmore was well met by Williams and Wright who seemed in little trouble. The 50 stand came up before the drinks interval and when Williams was dropped by keeper Fellows, he took full advantage of his fortune to craft a well deserved half century, finally being bowled for 80.

Pleass began cautiously but soon grew in confidence. With five overs remaining West Malvern still needed 30 runs but with wickets in hand Wright (78no) and Pleass (32no) saw the home side through to victory with seven balls to spare at 218-1.

West Malvern gained 20 points and Enville four points.

West Malvern travel to league leaders Halesowen tomorrow (Saturday).
