BARNARDS Green seconds were surprisingly asked to bat on another scorching Saturday in this WCL division one game at North End Lane.

BARNARDS GREEN II v CHADDESLEY CORBETT II

Brewer and Clack scored at almost 10-an-over for the first three overs until Clack flicked a ball behind square and was caught for 12. Jon lewis failed to trouble the scorer and Brewer soon followed for nine.

Paddock received the only unplayable ball of the innings and was caught behind for five and at 39-4, the Green were in trouble.

Roger Thompson played sensibly for 32 before he played on, James Scullion now played an innings of great maturity trying to hold together the innings,it was a shame his more senior partners did not do the same as wickets tumbled. Scullion was ninth out for a patient 27 and the Green were soon all out for a paltry 156.

Chaddesley had the task of obtaining the runs needed off 65 overs, Boden and Yardley had added 20 when Hooper took their wickets in the eighth over. Webster and Killigrew added a further 50 runs before Spencer had Killigrew caught for 16, he then bowled Teague for two and the Green sensed they could get an unlikely victory.

A run-out and another wicket for Spencer (3-14), followed by Scullion (2-19) having Webster caught behind for 40 put the game in a tense situation, Chaddesley needing 10 runs with two wickets remaining. With the fielders surrounding the bat the ninth-wicket pair guided the visitors to victory by two wickets in the 49th over.

This was a game the Green should have won but it was a lesson learnt too late this season as they stand mid-table, 50 points behind leaders Bewdley who they play tomorrow (Saturday).

Chaddesley took 20 points and the Green five.
