Malvern Town Reserves 3, Perrywood 1.

MALVERN Town’s new-look reserves side opened their Worcester and District Saturday League account with a convincing victory over Perrywood at the Langland Stadium.

The first-half started slowly with Perrywood being the more dominant side, showing Malvern that if they were to get anything from this game, they would have to gel quickly and find their feet.

Despite this dominance, Perrywood rarely tested Julian Robinson in goal and with 20 minutes gone, the only real effort was a half chance from 30 yards which Robinson dealt with ease.

All through pre-season Malvern had looked deadly on the counter-attack and this was exactly where the opening goal came from.

Perrywood were caught out of position, Ian Farney was picked out by Tipton on the left wing, Farney used a great turn of pace and control to beat three men with ease.

This run brought him wide left just entering the penalty area, as he looked up and saw a free Graham Jones at the back post.

A delicate lofted ball fell at the feet of Jones, who didn’t miss from eight yards out.

Malvern started to take control after Jones’ opener, especially with Farney giving the opposing full-back a torrid time.

However, with Malvern piling the pressure on Perrywood, a slack ball was intercepted a quickly cleared to Perrywood’s Asa Hall, who benefited from a stumble by Mark Tipton.

He rocketed a shot from 25 yards straight into the top corner leaving Robinson with no chance.

The unfortunate slip by Tipton, resulted in the experienced centre-half coming off with a torn groin muscle and can expect some time out, but 17-year-old Jack Allen came on for his debut in his place.

With half-time looming, David Jones decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck and went on a run that took him to the edge of the Perrywood area.

With no way through, he found Graham Jones who in turn picked out Farney wide left, he beat two men, pulled it back to the penalty spot, where Graham Jones stroked the ball into the path of namesake David, who fired off a rocket of a shot that rattled the back of the net from 18 yards out.

The second period was a one-way affair for Malvern Town Reserves.

Graham Jones added a second of the game, slotting home from six yards.
