Stourbridge 172 all out, Barnards Green 173-3.

AN unbeaten 98 from West Indies ‘A’ star Andre Russell guided Barnards Green to the Worcestershire League Division One title with a seven-wicket win over Stourbridge.

With one game to go, captain Tim Williams’ side are on 333 points following the victory, 31 ahead of Worcester Nomads who are guaranteed second place.

Green are now promoted to the Birmingham and District League for next season.

Green complete their campaign with an away clash against third-placed Worcester tomorrow (12.30pm start).

Against Stourbridge, Green won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.

A spell of 4-43 from Andy Ford restricted Stourbridge to 172 from 46 overs.

Green reached their target inside 30 overs with 173-3.

But it was Russell who continued his fine form with the bat with an unbeaten 98.

He was ably assisted by Phil Harris, who finished on 42 not out in the North End Lane clash.

Barnards Green seconds lost by four runs at Stourbridge in Worcestershire League Division One (Second XI).

Batting first, Stourbridge recorded 173-9 from their allotted 50 overs. Kalpesh Patel top-scored with an unbeaten 36.

Jack Cullity was the top wicket-taker, finishing with figures of 3-18 from his seven-over spell.

Jack McIntosh (2-12) and Tom Banks (2-17) were the other leading wicket-takers for the Green.

But, in reply, the Green crashed to defeat in the 48th over as they fell short on 169 all out.

Opener Andrew Wheeler top-scored for his side with 53 from 36 balls which included four fours and four sixes.

Adam Greaves (38) and Ryan Scullion (28) also batted well.
