Westbury Celtic 2, Vaults FC 1.

VAULTS FC travelled to Droitwich to take on Westbury Celtic in the WFA Sunday Minor Cup round three and crashed out. As the first-half wore on, Celtic were rarely seeing any of the ball as Vaults continued to pile on the misery for the home side.

Ben Allen smashed a shot against the crossbar from 30 yards for the ball to go out for a goal kick.

The resulting kick was half-volleyed back from the half-way line by Griffiths only for the goalkeeper to struggle back and tip over.

The deadlock was broken as the Vaults pressure paid off.

There was a nice exchange between Allen and Knight and back to Allen, who switched play with an accurate angled ball over the Celtic back-line.

This pass fell into the path of winger James McKee, and with the Celtic keeper fast approaching off his line, he clipped the ball over the stranded keeper from 25 yards.

The second-half was dominated by Celtic, who seemed a different outfit from the first period.

Vaults found themselves firmly camped inside their own area for large portions of the half, with a barrage of corners flung into the area, and with the Vaults defending for their lives.

In particular, stand-in skipper Gary Knight led from the back as he threw himself at every shot.

In the final 10 minutes of action, Vaults were feeling lady luck was on their side, as four shots from Celtic came crashing back into play in quick succession.

All of these efforts cannoned off the woodwork or werecleared by McKee.

Celtic had a penalty shout for handball turned down, as the ball was cleared and Vaults pushed up.

A ball over the top from Celtic was latched onto by Jason Grimshaw, who easily tucked away from five yards.

But Vaults’ claims for offside were ushered away by the referee.

Vaults looked tired and out of sorts, and they were punished in the dying minutes by another ball over the top not cleared and casually stroked home by Barry Scott to complete the scoring.
