MALVERN director of rugby Dave Robins said he will step down from his role in two years time as his side gear up for a home National Three Midlands clash with Hereford tomorrow.

Robins has been in charge at Spring Lane since the start of the 1994/95 season, winning seven league titles, including promotion to Midlands One (now National Three Midlands) last year.

But now he has decided to call time on his spell at the helm at the end of the 2010/11 term.

Robins said: “I shall stay for the rest of this season and go for another year but the 2010/11 season will be my last.

“This club has been a major part of my life.

“It’s been a rollercoaster. I have had some fantastic memories at Malvern.

“It needs a fresh look at things but I will remain at the club in a different capacity. It’s been a great time for me, I’ve had some brilliant times.”

In the short term his side face their second league derby tie in a week against mid-table Hereford (ko 2.15pm), seven days after they crashed to a 23-10 defeat at Bromsgrove.

The Malvern back row has been hit by injuries and unavailabilities ahead of tomorrow’s tussle. Winger Tom Beechey is out with a back muscle injury, Jimmy Aston is unavailable and Andy Hadden faced a fitness test last night.

Speaking on the Hereford clash, Robins added: “If we can get a result tomorrow it will make a massive difference to our season.

“This is an even bigger derby than Bromsgrove.

“Hereford have had a far better start then we have.

“We are struggling to field a back-line at the moment.

“I was bitterly disappointed with the Bromsgrove game, we really dominated in the first-half.”
