A MALVERN track cycling team won bronze at the LVRC Track Championships at Newport Velodrome.

Mike Amery, Gavin O’Mahoney and Sean O’Toole, of VC Sevale, competed in the 3km (12-lap) team pursuit.

With two teams of three riders starting on opposite sides of the track, the objective was to win on time over the distance against their competitors.

The skill is in riding together, as the final time is taken on the third rider of each team.

The Malvern team completed their qualifying time in three minutes 52 seconds which was only 7/10s slower than the quickest team and put them into the final.

However, a technical hitch in qualifying by Ludlow meant that the organisers and the other teams agreed to let them ride again.

The trio waited anxiously to see if Ludlow would better their time which they did by one second, pushing the VC Sevale team into the bronze position.

The trio also competed in the points and scratch races with Amery adding a silver medal in the individual pursuit.
