MANAGER John Snape insists Jordan Harrison’s contract is about Worcester City planning for the future rather than cashing in.

City’s rapid 21-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season with Snape revealing an extension could be considered before the summer.

The ex-West Bromwich Albion and Kidderminster Harriers youngster joined from Cradley Town during the closed season and has caught the eye with five goals in as many matches.

Snape acknowledged the rumour mill had churned out links between “a number of” City’s squad and clubs from higher levels, prompting the push to nail down a player who is proving a real find.

“There have been whispers, especially over the past two or three weeks, about a number of players at the club but the reason for putting Jordan on a contract is because we see him as part of our future," said Snape.

“He was brought in to give us that extra dimension up top with his pace, work rate and 100 per cent commitment to his role in the team.

“He has started finding the net pretty quickly and with a bit more belief and confidence, I think he and others can supply the goals that will put us right in the title race.

“If someone came in from a higher level it would be something for us to look at. We’re not going to stop anyone moving forward but I do feel he needs a year or two under his belt, playing regularly and finding the net.

“We were conscious of losing him to a higher level and then seeing his development stifled by being limited to substitute appearances.

“He is a local lad who is enjoying his football here and I am very pleased that he is on board.

“It gives us continuity and we will monitor his progress. With the right performances and commitment behind the scenes, it could be extended before the end of this season.

“This shows how much we believe in the lad’s ability. He can help us to progress to a higher level.”
