MALVERN Radar kicked off their pre-season in style with a fine 4-1 victory at GDL Athletic in the Droitwich Spa Eagles invitational competition.

Radar had never beaten their opponents but opened the scoring thanks to an opportunist goal from Ryan Scullion.

With 12 minutes on the clock Scullion evaded two challenges before calmly slotting the ball home from the narrowest of angles.

But their lead was short lived as GDL won a corner with their first real attack of the game and slack defending saw a far post header directed inside the left-hand upright.

Radar dominated proceedings from that point on and went ahead when Adam Buckley’s speculative shot from 12 yards out took a slight deflection which deceived the GDL keeper.

The second half saw Radar ring the changes and debutant Jon Rushton score with the deftest of touches at the near post.

Victory was then secured when the hard-working Kieran Smith found space in the opposing team’s penalty area to side foot the ball home.

Radar continue their preparations for the new season with a clash against Droitwich Spa Eagles' first-team on Sunday.
