AFTER numerous postponements, The Worcestershire’s men finally completed round four of their winter league.
Playing a better ball stableford format, competition for the two remaining places in the knockout stages was hot with three pairs carding 40 points at the Malvern Wells course.
They were Phil Birch (handicap 6) and Lee Whittall (6), Andy McCabe (5) and Paul Wakely (9) and Mark Read (5) and Stuart Green (13).
However, they were all beaten by the successful pairings of Paul Jones (6) and Peter Basten (15) and Tom Howells (4) and Brian Kendall (12) with scores of 42 and 41 points respectively.
Jones and Basten will meet Trevor Simmons (19) and Mike Salmon (17) with Howells and Kendall facing Alan Boyd (12) and Bruce Duncan (10).
Other finalists are Phil Shurmer (2) and Nick Smith (5), who play Dave Marshall (1) and Josh Marshall (13), and John Duncan (16) and Tim Wright (9), who take on Andy Fleming (13) and Richard Sebok (7).
An enthusiastic group of golfers tackled a mixed bowmaker competition in windy conditions.
With trollies not allowed on the course, organisers Trevor and Brenda Cox thoughtfully reduced the competition to 12 holes.
Playing in groups of four with one men's score and one lady’s score to count at each hole, a small but quality field was led home by Steff and Chris Nixon, playing with Joan and Gordon Herbert.
Their winning score of 52 points was just one ahead of April Wilding and Andy Greene playing with Tina and Ian Jukes.
Di and Paul Meakin and Yvonne and Mike Cawley were third on 48, two ahead of Elsie and Ralph Kelsall and Simon and Jos Penrhyn on 46.
Despite the testing conditions, the competitiors seemed to enjoy being out on the golf course again.
