MALVERN mountain bike star Tracy Moseley has been crowned as the first female winner at the end of the inaugural Enduro World Series.

The final round of the Series took place in the Italian coastal town of Finale Ligure and Moseley once again thundered to victory, closely followed by Anne Caroline Chausson of France, and Cecile Ravanel (France) in third place.

Moseley, who is widely known as T-Mo, had already secured her title in the penultimate round of the Series, but she showed no signs of taking her foot off the gas in the finale.

She said: “Finale Ligure definitely put on a show in every way for the final race of the Enduro World Series - sunshine, amazing food and biblical rain.

“There were five great, testing and technical stages mixed in with miles of pedalling around the beautiful area.

“I think I clocked around 20 hours of ride time over the four days of practice and racing.

I could not have asked for a better end to my year.

“Battling stage by stage with Anne Caro, and then to finally take the victory and conclude a year that will never be repeated as the first ever World Enduro Champion!”

It’s been widely acknowledged that this first year of the World Series has been a roaring success, and dates are already set for the 2014 Series. Enduro World Series managing director Chris Ball added: “The riders who could have taken it easy put on the best races ever.

“It turned out to be an amazing end to the season. It has exceeded anything I could have dreamed off.

“It’s been a roller-coaster of a year and we have a huge amount of input from the riders and teams as we move forward.

“We’ve learned a lot, but this final race and the amazing vibe here has absolutely motivated us to push on.”

An historic field of 600 racers from 26 nations took part in the 45kilometre, five-stage race that made the most of the Ligurian Coast’s incredible terrain, from fast flowing woodland trails to technical rocky coastal paths.

The racing culminated in the presentation to Moseley and the other category winners of hand-crafted trophies, designed by enduro athlete Anka Martin and her photographer husband Sven, and brought to life by Scottish artisan Simon Muir.
