WELLAND bounced back with a 4-2 home win over Leckhampton Rovers in Cheltenham Association League Division Three.

The villagers, who put in a poor display during a 3-1 defeat to Fintan the previous weekend, took the lead midway through the first-half after an even opening.

Ben Pearson coolly dispatched a penalty following a foul on James Lush.

With Rovers’ heads down, it was only minutes before fourth-placed Welland doubled their lead when neat passing ended in Lush sliding the ball past the keeper.

The hosts looked solid and they added an important third goal in the second period when Lush delivered a pacey corner which was headed in by debutant Jordan King.

On the hour mark, Lush made it 4-0 with a diving header from Ryan Dunn’s pinpoint cross.

However, Rovers grabbed consolations from a right-wing cross-shot, which evaded keeper Dan Hughes and flew into the top corner, and a header from a long throw.

Welland entertain Worcester and District League side Arrow 2000 in the Worcestershire FA Saturday Minor Cup second round at Spitalfield tomorrow (2pm).

l Hanley Swan felt they should have got something out of a 2-0 home defeat to Falcons in Cheltenham Association League Division One.

The villagers are third-from-bottom after four defeats from six games and conceded a sloppy early goal despite a bright start.

Hanley threatened the Falcons goal with the best chances falling to James Beale, who hit the post, and Matt Atkinson driving the ball just wide.

The hosts took 20 minutes to get into their stride in the second period with the final ball being poor too many times.

Eventually, chances came but were not converted as Falcons defended well.

With Hanley pushing forward, they left themselves open at the back and the Cheltenham visitors broke to score a second with virtually the last kick of the game.

l Newent Town continue to top Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two after a 2-1 win at Longford.

Shane Wilband and Richmond Badmus netted with Newent hosting Broadwell Amateurs in the Gloucestershire Senior Amateur Cup tomorrow (2.30pm).
