UPTON’S popular amateur troupe the Pepperpot Players are busy putting the finishing touches to their latest production.

Later this month they will be performing the musical production Our Day Out, written by Willy Russell, famous for his many popular stage and screen productions including Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine and Blood Brothers.

Our Day Out tells the story of a group of exuberant teenagers from the Liverpool backstreets who are taken on a coach trip to Conway, in North Wales.

The teachers have their hands full as the youngsters are given a brief taste of freedom from school.

As well as catchy tunes the production is packed with humour and poignancy as surprising revelations about the characters are made.

The show is directed by Karen Ashcroft and Alan Clarke, with musical direction by Felicity Hainge. The show will be staged in Memorial Hall from Wednesday to Saturday, October 28-31, and tickets are on sale now from PS Presents, in Old Street, priced £6 for Wednesday and £7 for other days. Telephone bookings can be made by calling 01684 592406.

There will be a raffle and light refreshments during the interval.

There will be no let up for the Pepperpot Players after the production, with auditions for their next show, the pantomime Aladdin, taking place in Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on Monday and Wednesday, November 2 and 4.

Then on Thursday, November 12 the group’s annual general meeting will take place upstairs in Memorial Hall at 8pm.

New and existing members are welcome to attend both the auditions and the agm. For more details about the Pepperpot Players call Sylvia Pountney on 01684 592406.
