FEARLESS Worcester cadets laced up their walking boots and took part in the gruelling Welsh Three Peaks Challenge to raise cash for a good cause.

Members of 187 (City of Worcester) Squadron air cadets in Worcester climbed Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan in less than 17 hours on Saturday, June 24.

A team of 12 cadets from the group, alongside one from 233 (Pershore) Squadron and another from 124 (Hereford) Squadron raised more than £580 for the Squadron Welfare Fund, a bank of money used to funds activities for less fortunate cadets who may have to be excluded from activities due to financial constraints.

The funding can also go towards ensuring cadets have the correct training equipment for activities.

The event was organised by commanding officer Karl Nicholson and led by mountain leaders Bill Hoe (squadron leader) and Dave Morgan (civilian instructor).

Commanding officer Nicholson said: "We set our fundraising target at £400 and we have raised £580; the support from the general public has been overwhelming so far."

The group is currently recruiting for new members, aged 12 to 17. Members can take part in flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training active RAF station visits and camping abroad.
