CHURCHES from around West Worcester joined forces for a Good Friday procession.

Worshippers and clergyman from churches across Dines Green and St John's marched from Homebase car park on Hylton Road at 10am today (Friday) for the Procession of Witness service.

The procession marked the day that Jesus Christ died on the cross, with around 65 people from across eight churches west of the river joining together.

The marchers walked through St John's carrying a cross and onto St John-in-Bedwardine Parish Church, where a service was held by a number of ministers and clergymen of the churches.

Reverend Phil Bradford, the vicar of St Michael's Church in Dines Green led the procession.

Revd Bradford said: "Today is one of the most important days of the calendar year in the Christian faith.

"We want to show people the origins of Good Friday and that it is not just a bank holiday.

"You can see a lot of people using it to do some shopping but to us it is much more than that.

"All of the churches will be having their own ceremonies this afternoon but it is nice to bring all the churches together for the procession."

Samantha Gillard, of Bromyard Methodist Church added: "It is important to remind people what the day is all about.

"We want people to remember what Jesus did for all of us.

"I saw an advert on TV from a supermarket that was insulting, they said that they would make Good Friday better by reducing beer and cider prices.

"It is a shame that people think this is what Good Friday is about. What we are doing is much better than reduced cider prices."
