AMBITIOUS fundraisers are set to take on a charity challenge which will see them run non-stop for 24 hours.

Participants will take to the running machine in turn from 3pm on Friday, March 31, at Tesco in Warndon Villages, Worcester – finishing at 3pm the next day.

The idea behind the event is to raise money for Worldwide Cancer Research, a charity which seeks to cure cancer around the world.

The challenge has been organised by Jay Richmond, from Henwick Road, who is running the London Marathon next month for the charity.

"I'm looking forward to it," said the dad-of-two. "I did my longest training run on Saturday, which is 20 miles. Hopefully we can raise money for charity."

The 36-year-old hopes to raise hundreds of pounds at the Tesco event, to help him reach his target of £2,200.

He will be joined by a group of fundraisers who will each run for an hour – taking it in turns throughout the day.

"I wanted to raise money for a cancer charity because everyone has been affected by cancer," said the dad-of-two.

"This is the first marathon I have ever done – it is probably going to be the last! I'm looking forward to it, I'm just hoping the crowds will get me through it.

"As long as I get round and get through it that's all that matters."

The London Marathon takes place on Sunday, April 23.
