WITH harvest season in full swing, an event in Martley has been celebrating the humble apple at the weekend.

Applefest was held at The Chantry School earlier today, October 15, which featured a range of apple-themed activities and crafts, as well as a farmers market for visitors to enjoy.

There were various traditional English apples on show and displays of apple preserves cider, artwork and craft, apple pressing and juicing.

Candy floss and toffee apples were on sale as well as honey on stalls set up.

School pupil's performed drama and a band played all to entertain visitors throughout the event.

Nearby Sport Martley Freedom Leisure also joined in the fun, organising a range of activities to coincide with the event.

Event organiser Caroline Palethorpe said: "This is our fifth year and the turnout has been good again.

"We have more than 100 apple variants on show - it really is a celebration of the English apple heritage and local produce.

"We thank Chantry for letting us host it. Their pupils get involved - the entrepreneurs of the future even putting on their own stalls.

"We cater for all needs - it is just a lot of fun, a real community event."

Willow artist and wire scupltor Victoria Westaway, a RHS gold medal winner, created a willow apple with the help of the school pupils.

"I have been working with the year 10s and 11s for this project - they loved it and we really enthusiastic.

"I've had a great response, children and even their parents have been joining in."
