ENGINEERS are trying to figure out what has caused a large water leak on Worcester Bridge.

A large puddle of water has been running down from the river crossing and across New Road this week.

However, tests carried out by a team from Severn Trent Water has shown that it has not come from their pipes.

Further investigations will be carried out to find the source of the water.

One lane of the bridge will be closed tomorrow (Friday) after 9.30am to repair the leaking water main with double crews working to ensure the job is completed as soon as possible.

A spokeswoman from Severn Trent Water said: "We’re aware of the issue in New Road in Worcester but, after testing the water, our teams found that it didn’t come from our pipes.

"We’re currently carrying out further investigations into what’s causing the water but there is the potential that it could be ground water.

"While the investigations are ongoing, we’re using traffic lights to keep our teams safe and we’d like to apologise for the inconvenience to drivers."
