FAMILIES turned out in force to enjoy the annual St George's Day celebration in Worcester's Gheluvelt Park yesterday (Saturday).
The sun shone all day for the well-attended event, which was organised by the Friends of Gheluvelt Park.
To start the day's events, a special parade by historical performance group Discover History marched from the park's gates at Barbourne Road.
Throughout the day there was music from the Worcester Ukulele Band and Dampiers Round folk band, while Discover History provided reenactments for youngsters.
Derek Steele, membership secretary with the Friends group, said: "It has been good - for some strange reason we have a habit of picking good weather!
"It is a very old fashioned, family entertainment, family fun day for anybody who enjoys the park."
The park is owned by Worcester City Council, which helped to run the St George's Day celebration.
The Friends are currently looking for new members to join and become a volunteer.
Mr Steele said: "We have been going since about 2004. That is when a band of local residents decided they would like to make a contribution to the quality of the park. Since then we have held an event at least twice a year.
"We survive on donations from the public. Anybody can become a Friend."
