SENSATIONAL police video has gone viral on the internet and it's got nothing to do with car chases or bobbies on the beat.

less than two days after its release, a spoof take on the John Lewis Partnership advert "Monty the Penguin" had recorded 30,000 views on Facebook and another 2,700 on Youtube.

The video has been shot by the Malvern boys in blue as a way of putting a serious message across in a fun way, however instead of a penguin they used their own mascot, Peeler, the Dog.

Immediately the two-minute footage was being retweeted from the police's Twitter site and shared on Facebook and uploaded onto Youtube.

The man behind the lens was Malvern PC David Wise. "When I saw the original John Lewis advert on TV I thought we could do one with Peeler," he said.

PC Wise said everyone took to their roles with professionalism and the video was shot in our spare time and using our own money, a few awkward moments and a lot of laughs.

The concept of the video is the same as the John Lewis advert: a boy with a pet penguin realises all his feathered, fish-eating friend wants is a mate. At Malvern police HQ, PCSO Kevin Tudge, playing the part of the boy, spends all his time with his friend Peeler, the mascot. They watch TV together - particularly enjoying the 2007 comedy film Hot Fuzz - play rugby, make a den at the station, have strolls in the park and have fun in the recreation ground. Peeler also proudly shows how he has mastered the dog bin.

But PCSO Tudge one day sees Peeler gazing longingly at "courting" police couple PCSOs Helen Carstairs and Martin Butcher and he realises Peeler wants a mate and his mission is to find him one.

PCSO Tudge also showcases his piano and singing skills by providing the covering song, Real Love, written by John Lennon.

The film also starred PCSOs Steve Freeman and Tracey Caldwell.

Police chiefs have endorsed the out-of-hours work by the officers.

Inspector Janet Heritage posted on Malvern Cops' Twitter account: "Just watched Peeler's Christmas advert. It's brilliant, well done, very funny." South Worcestershire Police Superintendent Kevin Purcell who has just moved from his North Worcestershire position also endorsed the alternative method to get the caring message telling his followers to check out the video.

PC Wise added: "Although this has been fun and everyone has said it made them chuckle, the message we are sending out is to 'look after one-another this holiday season.'
