An accident occurred at the junction of the Malvern and Callow End roads on Sunday. A motor-cycle, with side-car, was being driven from the direction of Callow End towards Worcester, and when at the junction a collision took place with the rider of an ordinary bicycle, who was rounding the Malvern Road corner into the Callow end Road. There were four persons riding on the motor-cycle and side-car. Behind the driver sat a lady, who was thrown off, and had her head badly cut. In the side-car were a lady and a child. The rider of the bicycle was seriously hurt. Dr Fenton attended to the injured people after which the lady and her companions were able to continue their journey to Birmingham. The cyclist, Mr Oliver Williams, manager of the Foresters' Arms, Malvern, was badly cut about the head and badly shaken. He was conveyed to his home by motor and attended by Dr Baines.

Malvern Hills District Council is negotiating to sell the 10-acre Malvern Rugby Club Ground at Spring Lane, Malvern Link, to be developed as a supermarket. An application for a 40,000 square foot supermarket - about twice the size of the central Malvern Gateway store - with car parking and petrol filling station has been submitted to the council. Road improvements would be necessary for the developments to go ahead. They would include a new roundabout at the junction of Spring Lane and the Spring Lane access road, traffic lights at the junction of Spring Lane and Pickersleigh Avenue, and road widening at the junction of Pickersleigh Avenue and Worcester Road. Although the rugby pitches are on an annual lease, the rugby club has a 12-year lease on its clubhouse, which it would hope to move to any new site. Also on the site is the headquarters of the 2nd Scout troop. Malvern Gazette, May 5, 1989.
