AN increasingly large number of inquiries are being received at Malvern Winter Gardens regarding the possibility of The Beatles appearing there. In response to those inquiries, the Malvern Council’s entertainment manager Mr James A Briggs is trying to arrange an engagement for this group as soon as possible. He points out, however, that The Beatles are in great demand throughout the country. They have a very heavy list of bookings, including their current tour of one-night theatre dates, appearances in America in February as well as radio and television shows. Winter Gardens patrons, however, can rest assured that he will make every effort to secure their appearance at Malvern.

A walk-out by staff protesting about privatisation plans hit services at Malvern’s main post office on Wednesday. With half the staff missing, the management manned the counters, but the shortage of staff meant the post office locked its doors for one-and-a-half hours over lunch time. The most affected members of the public were those motorists who had delayed paying for their new road tax discs until the last day of the month, With the post office shut at lunch time, many had to return in the afternoon, creating long queues - up to half an hour - through the rest of the day. The 24-hour strike was called across the country by members of the Union of Communication Workers.
