A MALVERN school has applied for planning permission for a memorial to a much-loved teacher who died suddenly.
The pavilion, at Malvern Wells CE Primary School, will be in memory of J J Smith, who died last November, aged 26.
Built in the school grounds, it will be a shelter for pupils and will also allow outdoor teaching to take place.
The school governors and the diocesan board of education have submitted the planning application to Malvern Hills District Council.
A fundraising gig in aid of the pavilion project is being held in Alfrick, where Mr Smith's parents live, tomorrow (Saturday).
Featuring Malvern band Velvet, it takes place at 8pm in a marquee on the village playing field. Tickets are £5 on the door, from Malvern St James or Alfrick Post Office.
