A MALVERN Link businesswoman is fed up of floods that prevent customers getting in or out of her store.

The latest problems for Anne Twigg, who owns Annabel's hairdressers in Merton Road, came on Wednesday, August 23, when torrential rainfall threatened to flood her salon.

"It was coming up into my stockroom and if we hadn't opened up a manhole outside then it would have gone right through the salon," she said.

Mrs Twigg says such problems are all too frequent and her pleas for help have been ignored.

She says a drain directly outside has been broken for 18 months and the camber of the road draws the water towards the salon.

She is also concerned that it is left to retired Hampden Road resident Maureen Stallard to climb over a wall and clear out a culvert to ease the flooding.

"She shouldn't have to and my concern is that one day she will get hurt," said Mrs Twigg.

Worcestershire county councillor Clive Smith said the drain would be `jetted' clear as soon as possible and he would contact Severn Trent Water, which he believes is responsible for the culvert.

"I don't blame Mrs Twigg for being unhappy. She and the other residents have had to put up with hell and it's not good enough," he said. A Severn Trent spokesman said: "Now we are aware of the problem we can arrange to visit the site and meet with residents and the council."
