GREAT Malvern Priory will be staging a flower festival to welcome Heart of England in Bloom judges to the town this summer.

Malvern in Bloom chairman John Jordan said the judges would start their tour of the town from the church when they visit on Thursday, July 21.

“The Priory will be organising a flower festival with the theme of ‘Biblical Quotations’, so when the judges arrive they will be welcomed by brilliant blooms all around the church.

“The whole idea is linked in with the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.”

Mr Jordan will also be taking the judges to Holly Mount Church.

“The judges have always been very impressed with Holly Mount and its biblical garden in the past, even awarding it a special certificate of commendation last year,” he explained. “We’re keen to show them how the garden has developed, and in fact since last year the church has run a competition with local schools, resulting in two new painted wooden panels depicting parables from the bible being added.”

Mr Jordan said he also hopes to involve other local churches in this year’s judging visit.

Malvern in again competing in the large towns category of Heart of England in Bloom this year and will be aiming to make it a hat-trick of Gold awards.
