THE promise of colourful costumes, memorable songs and larger than life characters can only mean one thing - it’s time for the Pepperpot Players’ annual pantomime.

This year the popular amateur troupe will be performing The Hunchback of Notre Dame, by Leonard H Caddy.

The show tells the story of Hunch’s love for the beautiful gipsy Esmerelda, who unfortunately only has eyes for the handsome Captain Phoebus.

However the passage of true love never runs smoothly, and Esmerelda will feel the full force of good and evil, and meet all manner of strange and wonderful characters, before the story reaches its heartwarming finale.

The show is being directed and produced by Natalie Gardiner and Maggie Taylor, and performances take place in Memorial Hall at 7.30pm from Tuesday to Saturday, February 22-26, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Pepperpot Players publicity officer Diana Scott said: “The Hunchback of Notre Dame promises to be a cracking show, full of fun, great songs, wonderful costumes and awesome scenery – everything you’ve come to love about Upton’s pantomime.”

Tickets cost £6 for the Tuesday and Wednesday evening shows and the Saturday matinee, and £7 for all other performances, available from PS Presents in Old Street.

Telephone bookings can be made on 01684 594317 and will incur a booking fee.
