A MEMORIAL match is being held at Upton Rugby Club this Sunday in memory of a former player and a former coach.

Player Justin Morton and coach Robin Foley both died of cancer in 2007. The memorial match, which has become an annual event, will raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

The match this year will see the Morton-Foley 15 team play a team from Evesham.

The Morton-Foley 15 is a team of players who played with Justin or were coached by Robin.

Organiser Tim Badger, a friend of both men, said the rugby match was a chance for old friends and players to have a get together and have a drink and remember their friends.

“It will be all the old boys. It’s a good day and a chance to remember Justin and Robin and if we manage to raise money for St Richard’s at the same time then that’s a bonus,” explained Tim.

Justin ‘Morts’ Morton died of cancer at the age of just 35 in 2007. Robin Foley died the same year.

The teams will be playing for the Morton-Foley Memorial Trophy.

There will be a pig roast at the event and a big prize raffle with all proceeds going to the hospice.

This is the third memorial rugby match that has been organised. The first in 2008 raised £5,000 and last year’s match a further £2,000.

Mr Badger would love to hear from anybody who played with Justin and who wants to get involved. He can be contacted on 07974 392696.

Kick off is at Upton Rugby Club at 2.15pm and everyone is welcome.
