RESIDENTS in St Ann's Road got out their sweeping brushes to help with a clean-up in readiness for Malvern in Bloom.
This involved sweeping the road, clearing out gutters and cutting back over-grown headgerows
"St Ann's Road is the highway to the hills but it's been badly neglected," said Philip Evans of St Ann's Road Residents' Association.
Mr Evans, who has lived there for more than 20 years, said the district council's road sweeping lorries were too wide for the steep, narrow road.
He said the road was once swept by hand on a weekly basis, but this was no longer the case.
Recent building work on the Aldwyn Tower flats has meant more mess from building supply deliveries.
The clean-up on Saturday, July 15, was organised by the residents' association, in partnership with Malvern Town Council and Malvern Hills District Council. A skip and small street sweeping machine were provided.
It was prompted by Malvern's entry for Britain in Bloom. Competition judges will walk up St Ann's Road on their way to St Ann's Well, at the start of their tour of the town.
