MALVERN St James will be turning back the clocks tomorrow (Saturday, September 11) as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme.
The school will be going back in time to the 19th century as students re-create its former use as the grand Imperial Hotel.
The hotel was opened in 1862, at the height of Malvern’s importance as a spa town. In 1919 it was purchased for the then substantial sum of £32,500 by Lily Poulton and Isabel Greenslade, who give their names to two of the school’s sixth form houses.
Between 3pm and 5pm tomorrow, visitors will be able to experience the main rooms of the hotel as they were back in the day.
Students will welcome them in period costume and there will be displays and presentations running throughout the afternoon.
