THE Chandos Symphony Orchestra is hosting its Young Musician Showcase Concert this weekend.

The star of the evening will be violinist Caroline Pether, who was the winner of the Malvern-based Young Musician contest two years ago.

Caroline was immediately offered a concerto with the orchestra and she chose the fiendishly virtuosic Walton concerto. This is being showcased on Sunday (September 12) and their guest conductor is Richard Laing.

Spokesperson Linda Fowler said: ‘This is an amazing programme full of intriguing and beguiling music, not least because of the inclusion of the music from Act One of the Nutcracker Ballet. Gorgeous stuff - different from the well-known suite - and rarely heard outside the theatre. But don’t miss this chance to see Caroline here in Malvern as her professional career takes flight.”

The concert takes place at 7.45pm at The Forum Theatre and tickets cost £10-£14. These are available on the door, but advance booking is advised by calling the box office on 01684 892277 or going online to malvern-theatres.co.uk.
