PRIMARY schools in Malvern and surrounding areas are performing well in English, maths and science.

Worcestershire was 82nd out of 151 in this year’s key stage two league tables, published this week, as opposed to 98th last year.

The ranking is only based on English and maths, and the county fared just below the national of 71 per cent of pupils hitting the required target.

There was plenty to celebrate locally though, with Leigh and Bransford Primary near Malvern where 100 per cent of pupils achieved level four or above in the core subjects - the Government’s standard benchmark for performance.

Head teacher Stuart Bill said it was the best result for a long time, possibly ever. He added: “This is down to the hard work of the pupils and fantastic support our parents and the whole team.”

Across the border the results included 100 per cent, 84 per cent and 100 per cent at Bosbury Primary School achieving Level 4 or above in English, maths and science respectively.

At Ashperton Primary the figures were 90 per cent, 85 per cent and 90 per cent. At Ledbury primary it was 71 per cent, 72 per cent, and 91 per cent.
