DOZENS of boxes of ”goodies” will be winging their way to British troops in Afghanistan thanks to a collection organised by the Royal British Legion in Hanley Swan.
Joyce Teale and Edie (correct) Wratton urged people to donate “treats for our troops”, which will now be sent abroad in packages organised by the charity Support Our Soldiers (SOS).
In only three months the Hanley Swan appeal managed to collect 63 large cardboard boxes full of items, including sweets, biscuits, pot noodles and all manner of tinned foods, as well as £500 in donations.
Mrs Teale is delighted with the response.
“The lady from the charity could not believe what a small village like ours has managed to do,” she said. “We have had such a brilliant and overwhelming response that we will be doing this again in the New Year.
“I would like to thank everyone who has donated because the response has been wonderful.”
