THE ‘get-up-and-go’ attitude of the Upton community has resulted in a pledge that the town’s bridge will be professionally spray-cleaned.

Mayor Paul Thomas was concerned at the image a dirty bridge projected to visitors to the town, and so organised a community bridge cleaning event a fortnight ago.

The results of their efforts were seen by Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for transport and safe environment when he walked the town with Coun Thomas and town clerk Andrea Oliver a few days later.

Coun Prodger was so impressed by the clean-up efforts that he said he would arrange for the rest of the footpaths and the road side of the bridge to be spray-cleaned by a high pressure hose.

Local Conservative parliamentary candidate Harriett Baldwin welcomed the news.

She said: “I spoke to Coun Prodger and he has been impressed with the strength of community pride shown by the Upton team and wanted to help in some way, despite it being unaffordable to paint the bridge at this time.”
